Ashok Singh takes top spot

BANGALORE, DEC. 23. The fourth day of the National Equestrian Championship was a gruelling test of rider and steed for the participants at the ASC C&C course here on Thursday.

The One-Day event, which comprises of three events, Dressage, Cross Country and Show Jumping in which the rider and the horse are tested till a winner is finally decided saw Major Ashok Singh Rathore of the 61st Cavalry riding Smart taking the top spot. Daffedar Shivaji Poonia (Sunflower) finished a close second.

In the team event, host Army Services Corps Centre & College edged out Remount Veterinary College C&S by one point to bag the top spot. ASC C&C were represented by Maj. R.K Swain (Napolean), Maj. KDS Hooda (Maverick), Lt. Col. R.S. Yadav/Tu RMT) and Sub Maj Ram Nivas (Trishul).

There were two appeals against the results in the junior section with Abhishek Chopra protesting against a fence judge's ruling on a refusal at the water obstacle and Punjab Police's Prabhjyot Singh appealing against a similar ruling at the fourth fence.

The judge would decide on the ruling on Friday morning. Remount Veterinary College too had some misgivings after losing out by one point but was convinced after the judges sorted out the matter.

The results:

BHS One Day Event (Novice): 1. Maj. A.S. Rathore/Smart (78.8 pts), 2. Dfr Shivaji Poonia/SunFlower (82.3pts), 3. Maj. R.K. Swain/Napolean (82.6pts), 4. Capt. R. Dagar/Tilak (84.1pts).

Team event: 1. ASC C&C (R.S. Yadav/Tu, R.K. Swain/ Napolean, K.D.S. Hooda/Maverick and Ram Niwas/Trishul) 277.1 pts, 2. RVC C&S (R.R. Mali/Marcool, Sunil/Ghalib, Manoj/Ginni, and Dinesh/Raaz) 278.7, 3. RTS &D (Govind Ram/Jungli Boy, Narendar Singh/Alain, S. Poonia/Sunflower, Gulab/Victor) 280.2, 4. 61st Cavalry (A.S. Rathore/Smart, R Dugar/Tilak, Munesh Kumar/Monu) 352 pts.

JNEC One-day Event Junior: 1. Cdt A. Sudan/Niyaz 73.4pts, 2. Cdt P. Mishra/Mubarak 76.8, 3. Cdt R. Rawat/Badshah 77pts, 4. Prabhjot Singh/Befikar 94.9.
