NEW DELHI, DEC. 23. Hot on the heels of the video clip case involving two school students, seven boys of another school in the Capital came close to being expelled after they were caught consuming alcohol during school hours. According to the school authorities, the Class XII students were caught consuming alcohol in class during the last period of teaching on Tuesday. While the parents of the students were called to school to apprise them of the situation, the boys were let off with just a stern warning keeping in mind their upcoming Board examinations. Dispelling rumours that the students had been expelled, the school principal said: "I would never expel a child. It was thought much better to try and help them rather than punish them as I am not here as a policeman.'' Both the students and the staff of the school, however, remained clueless about the incident through Wednesday, which was the last day of school before the winter holidays. The principal, however, said the students seemed to be only experimenting. "I did not try to find out who brought the liquor to school. But as we found out, they were only taking sips from a bottle sneaked in by someone,'' the principal said. Though barring the students from appearing in their upcoming pre-Board examination was contemplated, the school authorities finally decided against it.
