MANESAR, DEC. 23. Centre of Excellence (CoE) won the boys' and girls' titles in the Vatika 66th National junior and inter-State table tennis championship here. In a thrilling girls' final, Soumi Mondal pipped K. Swetha Khatri 13-11 in the fifth game to win the decisive fifth rubber for CoE against Tamil Nadu. Soumi was down a championship point at 10-11 but won the next three points to provide a memorable finish. In contrast, CoE had a comfortable 3-0 victory over Petroleum Sports Promotion Board Academy (PSPBA).
Boys: CoE beat PSPBA 3-0 (Soumyajit Sarkar bt Devesh Karia 6-11, 5-11, 11-9, 13-11, 11-9; Sayan Paul Roy bt Zubin Kumar 11-6, 11-7, 8-11, 8-11, 11-6; Jayanta Sarkar bt Arpit Bhopalkar 11-8, 12-10, 12-10).
Girls: CoE beat Tamil Nadu 3-2 (Soumi Mondal lost to K. Shamini 9-11, 11-5, 6-11, 2-11; Pallavi Kundu bt R. Swetha Khatri 12-14, 11-1, 9-11, 12-10, 11-8; Salankara Mahalanobish bt A. V. Nivedita 11-7, 11-9, 10-12, 5-11, 11-6; Pallavi Kundu lost to K. Shamini 15-17, 8-11, 2-11; Soumi Mondal bt K. Swetha Khatri 8-11, 11-9, 11-8, 9-11, 13-11).
