Six landmines unearthed
KARIMNAGAR,
DEC. 23.
The Karimnagar district police on Thursday unearthed six landmines planted by suspected CPI (Maoists) group naxalites underneath a culvert on the Nagaram-Kundanapalli village road in Jammikunta mandal bordering Warangal district.
The Superintendent of Police, Rajiv Ratan, said that on a tip-off, a special police party was asked to conduct checking of roads.
While, checking a culvert, the police noticed landmines in six plastic buckets and connected with wires.
The explosives, along with 200 detonators, were weighing five to eight kg.
The explosives were ready for detonation anytime by naxalites. The unearthing of mines had averted a major mishap, he said.
They were suspected to be planted by the Peddapalli and Chityala Maoist squads.
The Jammikunta CI, Satyanarayana Reddy, and the SI, Venkateswarlu, were present.
