BANGALORE, DEC. 23. The Janata Dal (United) has demanded the disqualification of the Rajya Sabha member, M.A.M. Ramaswamy, following reports in a section of the press that he allegedly resorted to corrupt means to get elected to the Upper House of Parliament. The President of the State unit of the Janata Dal (U), B. Somashekar, said here on Thursday that the party will write to the Election Commission to take cognisance of the action of Mr. Ramaswamy. Mr. Somashekar based his demand on the allegation levelled by the Janata Dal (Secular) MLA and former Minister, Vaijnath Patil. The Janata Dal (U) leader demanded the Income Tax authorities to take note of the allegations and order an inquiry. Similarly, a probe by the Corps of Detectives should also be ordered. Mr. Somashekar said that the move of the coalition Government to appoint parliamentary secretaries to "appease" those who could not be accommodated in the Ministry was "unwarranted." If the Government goes ahead with the proposal, there will be an additional burden on the exchequer, he said. He urged the Government to restore 10-hour power supply to the rural areas after paying up the dues to Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd. The farmers, he said, are facing difficulty with the erratic power supply.
