Singareni cancels anniversary celebrations

By Our Staff Reporter

KOTHAGUDEM, DEC. 23. The Singareni Collieries Company Ltd (SCCL) cancelled its anniversary celebrations in the coal town today in view of the demise of the former Prime Minister, P.V. Narasimha Rao.

The coal workers joined the mourning by calling off the `Singareni run,' which reached Rudrampur village after covering all 12 areas of the collieries.

The `Best Singarenians' were to be honoured by the Chairman and Managing Director, R. H. Khwaja, before giving his message to the coal miners in the town late in the evening, but the programme was cancelled.

So was the case with the cultural programmes planned for the evening. The exhibition stalls put up by various departments of the company had a good number of visitors, but the turnout at the Prakasam grounds--venue of the exhibition--thinned down in the evening.

The directors of the company who met at the headquarters condoled the death of the former Prime Minister.
