MYSORE, DEC. 23. The All India Democratic Students' Organisation (AIDSO) has said that a signature campaign will be launched in the State to seek improvement in the education sector. It is part of the nation-wide campaign to be launched to coincide with the valedictory function of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the organisation in Kolkata on December 28. The President of the Mysore district unit of the organisation, M. Umadevi, told presspersons here that the campaign would seek a pro-student legislation by the Centre to put an end to the CET crisis. She said the organisation's other demands included allocation of 10 per cent of funds in the Union Budget to the education sector, preventing privatisation of government and semi-government educational institutions and commercialisation and communalisation of the sector. Urging the public to participate in the event, she said at the end of the campaign a memorandum will be submitted to the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, along with the signatures collected. The Union Human Resources Development Minister, Arjun Singh, has promised to convene a meeting of Education Ministers to discuss the CET issue. During the Golden Jubilee year, she said, the organisation will focus on issues such as globalisation of education, crisis in primary education, communalisation of education, introduction of the concept of autonomy and the entry of foreign universities.
