UDUPI, DEC. 23. The district unit of the Karnataka Komu Sauharda Vedike on Thursday welcomed the decision of the Chikmagalur district administration to ban the Shobha Yatre by Sangh Parivar. Addressing presspersons here, Sriram Diwana, president of the vedike's district unit, and G. Rajashekhar, its honorary president, said the decision to ban the yatra is a victory to secular forces. But the decision to allow rituals which did not exist before 1975 is regrettable, they said. Sauharda Samskritika Jatre, which the vedike wants to hold in Chikamagalur on Saturday, will be held in Shimoga. The vedike will send a delegation to ascertain if the pre-1975 status quo will be maintained at Chikamagalur on December 26, they said. Phaniraj, Janardhan Bhandarkar, and Hayavadana Upadhya of the vedike were present.
