Send greetings sans card

By Our Special Correspondent

A sample of New Year greetings.

CHENNAI, DEC. 23. Do you want to send a "colourful greeting message" to your friend or relative in Pollachi or Parangipettai without buying greeting card? You can do so. Just go to a nearby post office and write or type your message on the middle portion of a plain white paper of A-4 size. You can rest assured that your message will reach the addressee on a colour-tinted paper with the backdrop of popular images of Mamallapuram and Kanyakumari.

"What is more important is that the message will reach the addressee quicker as we use the electronic mode to transmit it," says Vatsala Raghu, Chief Postmaster-General of the Tamil Nadu Circle.

Postmen will deliver the messages. For sending a message, the tariff is Rs. 10. "On an experimental basis, we are planning to provide this service in Tamil Nadu. This is also to promote our product of e-post, through which anyone, without having access to a computer, can send or receive e-mail messages," she points out.

The Postal department is also selling its conventional greeting cards, priced Rs. 14 and 17 each.
