Partly cloudy

CHENNAI, DEC. 23. The sky will be partly cloudy on Friday with a possibility of light rain in some areas.

On Thursday, Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recorded a maximum temperature of 30.1 and 30.9 degree Celsius and a minimum of 19.8 and 20.4. The humidity was 78 and 74 per cent.

Alumni meet

The Vidya Mandir Senior secondary school, Mylapore, turns 50 in February 2006 and intends celebrating the occasion with activities in the 2005-06 academic year. The alumni of the school will get together for a reunion tea meeting on Sunday, December 26, 4 p.m on the school premises at Mylapore for a discussion on their role in the celebrations.

Office-bearers

The Association for Hospitality has elected its office-bearers at the annual general body meeting on Saturday. Justice S. Jagadeesan is the president, K. Narayanan, secretary, V.S. Subramaniam, Joint Secretary and S. Damodaran, treasurer.

Computer course

The Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan's Gandhi Institute of Computer Education and Information Technology offers a 3-month free computer course for persons in the 18 -35 years age group who have completed XII Standard and belonging to economically weaker sections. Application forms will be available at the Bhavan's Gandhi Institute, 18-22, East Mada Street, Mylapore, up to January 5, 2005. Aptitude test will be held on January 9.

Eye check-up

As many as 171 persons took part in the Kannappar free eye check-up camp organised by the Hindu Mission Hospital in Tambaram Sanatorium on Wednesday. Five have been referred for free intra ocular lens surgery.

Margazhi festival

Singing of verses from Tiruppavai and Tiruvembavai by students formed part of the Margazhi festival organised by the Shri Natesan Vidyasala Matriculation Higher Secondary School at Mannivakkam near Tambaram. The school organised an AIDS awareness programme.

Anniversary

The 14th anniversary of the Lakshmi Nagar Civic Welfare Association in Nanganallur will be celebrated at Mangayarkarasi Nagar Park, Nanganallur on Sunday. B. Valarmathi, Minister for Rural Industries will be the chief guest.
