CHENNAI, DEC. 23. There was a high drama at Ripon Buildings, the Chennai Corporation headquarters, on Wednesday when the Madras High Court personnel wanted to initiate attachment proceedings over the civic agency's failure to award compensation for a woman. According to sources, the Corporation failed to award Rs. 5 lakhs as compensation to Kamala, a resident of Bharat Nagar in Korattur, as directed by the Small Causes Court. Kamala's husband, Muthu, died eight years ago in an accident involving a Corporation vehicle. Despite the Court's order, Kamala has not yet received her money. She approached the court and the court initiated attachment proceedings. Corporation's legal cell held talks with Kamala and gave an undertaking that the compensation would be settled within two weeks.
