CHENNAI, DEC. 23. The Chennai Corporation's Deputy Mayor, R. Thiagarajan, today placed a detailed report at a corporation council meeting on various allegations raised by Opposition councillors in a memorandum to the Governor earlier this month. Reading out the responses to the allegations most of them levelled at him and the Town Planning Committee chairman, P. Vetrivel he accused the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and other Opposition parties of trying to come up with "baseless" allegations to show the Government in a bad light. Mr. Thiagarajan said the lease of a notified playground at Kannapar Thidal to iced fish wholesale dealers two years ago and the civic agency's attempts to acquire a 32-ground land on Jones Road, Saidapet, were done at the behest of the former Mayor, M.K. Stalin. behest. The civic agency acted on complaints of illegal grant of certificates. In the immediate past, an assistant executive engineer and an assistant were suspended. He said Mr. Vetrivel had no role to play in the issue of no-objection certificates for buildings.

A resolution was passed to put all resolutions since 1996 on the website, www.chennaicorporation.com. in the first phase of the project. The council passed 45 resolutions, including one on privatisation of conservancy operations of city's three arterial roads Walltax Road, Nungambakkam High Road and Cathedral Road for a month. The CPI(M) councillor, Devi, wanted to speak on the subject but the Deputy Mayor did not allow her. The resolution was passed without any discussion.
