Councillors stage walkout in Tirupur

By Our Staff Reporter

TIRUPUR, DEC. 23. The Opposition parties in the Tirupur Municipal Council today staged a walkout taking strong exception to the Chairman's remark on their recent agitation parties over the deposit hike for water connections.

(The Opposition parties under the umbrella of Democratic Progressive Alliance had staged a road roko on Monday in front of the municipal office and gave hundreds of memoranda protesting the recent decision of the Municipal Council increasing deposit for water connections from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 5,000 and from Rs.5,000 to Rs. 10,000 for domestic and commercial connections respectively.)

As soon as the meeting started the CPI (M) Councillor, Jeyakrishnan condemned the chairman, M.N. Palanisamy for saying that the Opposition was politicising the issue and that it did not have public support.

All the Councillors belonging to the DMK, the CPI, the CPI(M), the MDMK, the Congress and the INL walked out of the meeting.
