By Our Staff Reporter

TIRUPUR, DEC. 23. The Palladam police today arrested 24 persons, belonging to two groups following a clash here after a boy, Rajasekaran (17), son of Shanmugam, who committed suicide protesting the arrest of Kanchi Sankaracharya, Sri Jayendra Saraswathi, reportedly went missing since late last night.

According to the police, the Class XI boy went missing after leaving a note saying that he was threatened and abused by some persons in his native village K. Ayyampalayam. Based on a complaint from the family, police arrested Kannusamy this morning. This led to a clash between two groups on their way to the Police Station. More than 10 persons, including Subbulakshmi, wife of late Shanmugam, were admitted to the hospital with injuries. Police arrested Selvam and 14 others and Sundaramurthi and 7 others belonging to rival groups and a case was registered against them. According to him, the investigation revealed that the boy was not kidnapped by anyone and he went on his own. The Police believe that the boy had gone to Coimbatore and a special team was on the look out for him.
