Celebrations

COIMBATORE, DEC. 23. The joint Hindi celebrations of the Town Official Level Implementation Committee (TOLIC) were organised by the Canara Bank. Indian Bank was awarded the Champion Prize for the best performance. The Deputy Commissioner of the Coimbatore Corporation, M. Rahim, who distributed the prizes, underlined the importance of Hindi as a link language.

Art expo

The Academy of Artists (Oviya Kalai Kuzhu) will organise the seventh annual art expo at Nehru Vidyalaya from December 26. Twelve artists from Coimbatore, Erode and Pollachi will exhibit their works at the five-day event. The first endowment prize, in the name of artist K. Ramanathan, will carry Rs. 1,000. Christmas fete

The Kerala Catholic Association will organise the Christmas and New Year celebrations on December 26 at the Circus Grounds. Cultural programmes will be held.

Seminar

The School of Biosciences of the GRD Damodaran College of Science will organise a national seminar on `Conservation of Agro-biodiversity in India - the Role of Stakeholders' on December 27.

Competition

The Skanda School of Performing Arts, Chennai, will organise essay-writing competitions for school and college students. There are two categories for participation. The first category is open to students of classes VIII to XII. The second category is open to college students and others interested. There is no upper age limit in the second category. The topics are Carnatic music and Bharatanatyam. Participants can write on one or both topics and send them as separate entries to the Skanda School of Performing Arts, 9/1, First Floor, Palathope, Mylapore, Chennai.
