Six mobile phones, including the one used in making the extortion calls, have been recovered from them. According to the police, Vinod Gupta, a resident of Bhajanpura, lodged a complaint with Bhajanpura police stating that he had been getting calls on his landline number in which the caller demanded Rs. 5 lakhs in lieu of his family's safety. The caller posed as Sanjeev Sabbarwal, a criminal who carries a reward of Rs. 1 lakh on his head. Investigations revealed that some one known to the family was involved in the incident. Following inquiries, the police arrested Riazuddin, a resident of Bhajanpura. During interrogation, Riazuddin allegedly confessed to having made the extortion calls.
