NEW DELHI, DEC. 23. The Mahipalpur MLA, Vijay Lochav, today lashed out at the Delhi State Civil Supplies Corporation Limited (DSCSC) for making a false case in respect of the opening of a liquor shop in his Assembly constituency and termed as "baseless'' the charges that he had resorted to violence and threatened the official staff of dire consequences. Stating that he had gone to the spot to protest the opening of the liquor vend in his area as it had been done without the permission or knowledge of the area MLA, Mr. Lochav informed that he had to rush to the site of incident as a large crowd had gathered there to protest against the opening of the liquor shop. After reaching the spot, he asked the official staff to close the shop in view of the anger prevailing among the people of the area and their repeated protests. At no point of time did he or any of his supporters intimidate the staff or tried to damage the property. "It is a baseless charge that we threatened the staff and took away official documents including excise permits. This is a clear-cut conspiracy on part of certain officials to show the elected representatives in poor light and such a situation would not be allowed to go on,'' he added. Mr. Lochav said that the MLA had every right to protest against the opening of liquor vend that is resented by the people of the area. It is unfortunate that such a tirade had been launched against a ruling party MLA and officials responsible for this should be taken to task, he added. However, the DSCSC Assistant Manager (Liquor), Sheodan Singh in a written statement stated that the shop was opened after obtaining proper license from the Excise Department. He said the sale of liquor was in progress when a mob headed by the area MLA suddenly appeared on the scene and started protesting. The MLA not only beat up the vend in-charge, Vinod Sharma, but also his colleagues, Parmeshwar Singh and Prem Pal Singh.
