TIRUCHI, DEC.23 . The Sri Lankan Airlines, in association with the Sri Lankan Convention Bureau, professional conference organisers and destination management organisers has introduced various incentives and packages to attract tourists and travellers to Sri Lanka for business meetings, conferences and exhibitions. The Airlines has targeted to achieve a five per cent increase of traffic in the segment and has introduced various special packages including special airfares (for both groups and individuals), elite in-flight services, seating arrangements, online assistance and assistance at airport and conference venue, publicity and promotional support, according to a Sri Lankan Airlines release. The primary market for conferences is from India. In 2003, Sri Lanka registered 90,000 tourist arrivals from India, out of which 15 per cent were "MICE" (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) travellers. Over 150 Indian groups have already visited Sri Lanka this year. The initiative was an attempt to promote the twin attraction of pleasure and business in Sri Lanka with its sophisticated facilities.
