59 cases settled at Lok Adalat

TIRUCHI, DEC. 23 . Settlements were arrived at with respect to 59 cases leading to the recovery of Rs.8.51 lakhs during a Lok Adalat conducted under the auspices of the Tiruchi District Legal Services Authority and the Indian Overseas Bank in Lalgudi recently.

Notices were issued to 301 defaulting borrowers or guarantors for total dues of about Rs.72.02 lakhs in seven IOB branches in Lalgudi taluk.

Defaulters in Manthurai, Lalgudi, Poovalur, Kattur, Malvai, Peruvalapur and Purathakudi branches were asked to participate in the Adalat. Sixty-nine borrowers participated in the Adalat held at the Lalgudi Munsif Court and 49 of them opted to pay a total of Rs.1.20 lakhs of their dues on the spot.

The Lok Adalat was conducted by K.S.Narasimhan, former district Judge and A.Dhanasekaran, District Munsif and Judicial Magistrate, Lalgudi. A team of advocates and bank officials assisted them,

according to a Press release from the IOB.
