Celebration deferred

KOCHI, DEC. 23. `Varavelpu - 2005,' the Christmas and New Year celebration, planned by the District Tourism Promotion Council from Friday at the Durbar Hall Grounds has been deferred because of the week-long mourning announced by the State Government as a mark of respect to the former Prime Minister P.V. Narasimha Rao, according to the District Collector, A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish.

Christmas celebrated

The Christmas celebrations of the Customs Recreation Club as part of its Golden Jubilee this year were held along with the inmates of the Palluruthy Relief Settlement (PRS). The Commissioner of Customs, G.V. Naik, inaugurated the celebrations by cutting the cake and the Joint Commissioner of Customs, Satish Kumar Reddy, presented the donations including medicines, utensils, clothes and toiletries collected by the Club to Rangamani, project director of the PRS. The Additional Commissioner of Customs, C.J. Mathew, offered felicitations.

Decision hailed

The District Congress Committee president, K.P. Dhanapalan, has welcomed the Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy's decision to give sanction to the Metro Rail project as a solution to the traffic problems faced by Kochi.

Elected

Babu Kappan and Iqbal Valiyaveettil have been elected president and vice-president of Ernakulam Cooperative House Construction Society Ltd.
