Bicentenary celebrations

KOCHI, DEC. 23. Bicentenary of the birth of Kuriakose Elias Chavara, the founder and the first Superior General of Carmelites of Mary Immaculate, will be celebrated on January 2 at Thalore, near Thrissur.

Fr. James Madathikandam, director of Chavara Cultural Centre, and Fr. Mathew Kaniyamparambil, chairman of the organising committee, said here today that 45 CMI deacons would be ordained on January 2. Cardinal Varkey Vithayathil, Archbishop of the Syro-Malabar Church, and 10 bishops would confer the priestly ordinations.
