By Our Staff Reporter
KOCHI, DEC. 23. Tourism development should be in tandem with our cultural ethos, said the Governor, R.L. Bhatia. Speaking at the valedictory function of Focus 2020, a three-day national seminar organised by the Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) here on Thursday, Mr. Bhatia said that the potential of Kerala would be better realised if tourism projects were conceived with a lot of forethought and focussed planning. Kochi would get a facelift with the commissioning of projects like Vallarpadam Transhipment Terminal and other industrial ventures, he added.

Mr. Bhatia also presented the awards to businesspersons for their contributions in various trades. The winners include Beena Kannan, the promoter of Seematti Textiles and Ready-mades, for the award for contribution in the field of trade and commerce; P.V. Gangadharan, promoter of KTC Group, for contribution in diversified business activity; Subhadra Revi Karuna Karan of the Karan Group of Companies for contribution in the field of export and Ahmed Usman Sait, the promoter of Abad Group for contribution in the field of Industry. Earlier, the ICICI president, K.S. Sabu, welcomed the gathering, M.A. Thomas, advisor, ICCI, presented the report, and Balagopala B. Pai, vice-president, ICCI, proposed a vote of thanks.
