Witness threatened, says Public Prosecutor

GUNTUR, DEC. 23. The seventh prosecution witness, Mannava Koteswara Rao, was threatened by some people against deposing before the Special Judge, N. Basavaiah, at the Tsundur court in the 1991 August dalits' massacre case, the Special Public Prosecutor, B. Chandrasekahra Rao, told the court on Thursday.

He sought adjournment on that ground and producing of the witness was adjourned to next Wednesday by the Judge, N. Basavaiah. The sixth witness Chappidi Mark, who deposed before the court on Wednesday, was cross-examined on Thursday.

Meanwhile, in a related development, the second prosecution witness, Angalakuduru Prasad, working as a watchman at the Amruthaluru SC Boys' Hostel was allegedly suspended from service on the ground that he had absented himself on December 2 and 8, the days he had come to the court.

According to Mr. Prasad, he had given a written leave letter, but was suspended.
