Gannavaram airport recorded a maximum temperature of 31.4 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 15.5 degrees Celsius on Thursday. Humidity which was 91 per cent in the morning dropped to 59 per cent in the evening.

Commodity prices

The following are the prices (in rupees per kg) of the essential commodities in the local wholesale markets on Thursday, according to the Vijayawada Chamber of Commerce and Industry: groundnut oil - 50, palmolein oil - 39.50, sunflower oil - 52.50, tamarind (flower variety) - 35 to 42, tamarind (karipuli variety) - 45 to 54, chillies (AC) - 20 to 27, chillies (non-AC) - 12 to14, rice (2716) - 12, rice superfine - 12.50, rice (samba masoori) - 13 to 14, rice (sona masoori) - 15 to 16, black gram - 20.80 to 22.40, red gram - 22 to 27.50.

School for

child labour

Jan Shikshana Sansthan director, N. Vidya Kanna, inaugurated a National Child Labour Project school built under the auspices of the Navjeevan Bala Bhavan for child labourers employed in Autonagar industrial estate.

Recognition

The city-based Dr. Y.V. Rao Usha Cardiac Centre has given recognition as a referral hospital for taking up heart surgeries for children by the State Government. The Centre is the third hospital to receive the recognition after the Apollo Hospitals, Hyderabad, and M.S. Hospitals, Chennai.
