HYDERABAD, DEC. 23. The Telugu Talli flyover connecting the major link road from Liberty towards Secunderabad may serve a limited percentage of commuters travelling from Secretariat to Indira Park and beyond if no ramps are provided. A ramp is essential to guide traffic from NTR Marg and another to allow it descend near the original Telugu Talli statue junction and proceed towards Secretariat new gate and NTR Marg. If traffic has to be decongested, then the Telugu Talli flyover in its present form will only serve a limited purpose without the two ramps and service roads. Construction of the flyover, which is totally aligned on the lower tank bund road, had necessitated closure of the road that was used by traffic coming from RTC crossroads and by those going from upper tank bund towards Indira Park.
Problem of residents
However, after the road closure, traffic moving through the residential colonies of Domalguda and Gaganmahal has grown considerably. The flyover had also blocked the entrance to houses on the adjoining side as no place was left for the service road. After legal wrangles, the matter was finally resolved with residents agreeing to forego part of their houses for the service road coming up only on one side of the flyover. If no ramps are provided, vehicles will continue to pass through the internal roads of the two colonies, says the Gagan Mahal Residents Welfare Association president, C. Subramanyam. The HUDA Chairman, D. Sudheer Reddy, said providing ramps was being considered. While the up ramp could be provided near Lumbini Park, the down ramp can be considered once feedback is available after the flyover is opened. If necessary it will be taken up in a way that it will not cause traffic problems at the Liberty junction, HUDA officials said.
