By Our Staff Correspondent
BHOPAL, DEC. 24. The Madhya Pradesh Government is making special efforts to give impetus to Sanskrit learning. Under the first phase of the Sanskrit "Pathshala" (school) Modernisation Scheme, arrangements are being made for teaching of subjects like English, mathematics, science and social sciences in the government run Sanskrit Schools in the State. Over 44000 Sanskrit students are presently receiving monthly scholarships and the State Government is also providing financial assistance for setting up a Sanskrit library and renovation of three traditional Sanskrit schools in the State. For qualitative improvement in Sanskrit teaching, Sanskrit teachers in the State are required to go through an orientation programme. Under a time-bound programme, hundred teachers/lecturers from each district of the State would also have to go through a special training programme aimed at developing their Sanskrit teaching skills. A book entitled "Sanskrit Bhasha Shikshanam" has also been published in the State to facilitate training of Sanskrit teachers. The Madhya Pradesh Sanskrit Board has even fixed the target of imparting training to five thousand Sanskrit teachers. At present there are about 500 Sanskrit schools in the state. Of these, 70 schools are being run by the State School Education Department and Tribal Welfare Department and ten by the Higher Education Department.
