Madhya Pradesh
By Our Staff Correspondent
BHOPAL, DEC. 24. The supporters of the former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, Uma Bharti were jubilant after the revocation of her suspension from Bharatiya Janata Party was formally announced in New Delhi today. The news of Ms. Bharti's re-entry into the party was greeted with bursting of crackers in the busy new market area here this afternoon. A large number of Uma Bharti supporters, including women, gathered at the Roshanpura square at New Market carrying BJP flags and placards to herald their leaders' return to the party fold shortly after the news had flashed here about the revocation of her suspension. The BJP workers, led by State Minister, Sunil Nayak and prominent local leaders like Bhagwandas Sabnani and Shaitan Singh were seen distributing sweets and dancing to drum beats to celebrate Ms. Bharti's return to the party. Mr. Nayak, who is a strong Uma loyalist, had told newspersons the other day that majority of Ministers in the Madhya Pradesh Cabinet were still committed to Ms. Bharti's leadership. When a group of newspersons met the State Chief Minister, Babulal Gaur later this afternoon and sought his reaction on the latest development, he said: "all of us will remain united and work for the progress of the party." Following Ms. Bharti's suspension after she had stormed out of the meeting of the newly constituted BJP office-bearers on November 10, her followers in Madhya Pradesh had gone into a virtual hibernation. Even her most loyal supporters had chosen to remain silent on the pretext of discipline and were obviously biding their time. The State Minister for Public Works department, Kailash Vijayvargiya told The Hindu today: "though distressed by the Party President's decision to suspend Ms. Bharti, we had to remain quiet for the sake of party discipline." The Party president has now revoked the suspension and we are so happy, he went on to observe.
