Christmas at Bodh temple

NEW DELHI DEC. 24. Sanatan Sanskriti Sansthan, a socio-cultural organisation engaged in the promotion of secular values, will celebrate Christmas at the Bodh temple adjacent to Birla Mandir on Mandir Marg on Saturday.

The Naib Shahi Imam of Fateh Puri Mosque, Maulana Muazzam Ahmed, will be the chief guest, while Swami Ganarathna of Maha Bodhi Society will preside over the function.

The highlight of the function will be carol singing and distribution of gifts by Santa Claus.

Human rights award

NEW DELHI DEC. 24. The 6th World Human Rights Congress organised its Annual Human Rights Promotion Awards function earlier this month at the India International Centre here. The Indian Institute of Human Rights has been conferring such awards over many years to eminent personalities in various fields for promoting and spreading awareness about human rights. This year, the vice-principal of DTEA Senior Secondary School, Janakpuri, G. Harikrishnan, is one of the recipients of the award. He received the award from the Mauritius ambassador, Usha Dwaraka Cannsabady.

Talk on ultimate success

NEW DELHI DEC. 24. Swami Amritaswarupananda Puri of Sri Mata Amritanandamayi Math in Kerala was in the Capital recently to deliver a talk on "Achieving Ultimate Success'' at the Indian Society for International Law here. Speaking on the occasion, he said that if man can correct himself rather than try to correct others, the world would become a better place to live. The Swamiji's visit was in connection with the programme of Mata Amritanandamayi in Delhi in March next.

Notices to news channels

NEW DELHI DEC. 24. The juvenile justice court hearing the video clip case today sent show-cause notices to two television channels for allegedly reporting the matter in a manner that violated Section 21 of the Juvenile Justice Act.

Acting on the evidence produced, the court asked both the channels to file their reply by January 11. Meanwhile, the court also directed an English daily to reply on the issue by January 11. Earlier this week, the counsel for the boy involved in the case and his former school had moved an application demanding action against the newspaper and the news channels for having published the name of the school, which might lead to the identification of the juvenile.

DPS celebrates Christmas

NEW DELHI DEC. 24. To celebrate the spirit of loving, caring and sharing that symbolises, Delhi Public School Indirapuram celebrated the festival on Thursday with a cultural function in which the school children presented various programmes.

The programme started with a Christmas carol, "Aaya Masih Charni Me Tu", by the children of Shiksha Kendra -- a school run in the afternoon shift for the underprivileged children and then the story of Christmas was presented through `The Nativity Play'.

The celebration, which was attended by a large number of parents as well, reached its zenith with the New Year Goan Dance. Speaking on the occasion, the school principal, Meeta Rai, emphasised upon the need to foster the feeling of love and forgiveness.
