Christmas spirit pervades city

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, DEC 24. Christians flocked to churches to attend midnight mass and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ as the yuletide spirit of good cheer swept the twin cities on Friday night.

Smiling faces and affectionate greetings warmed up the winter night even as popular carols such as `Silent night, holy night!' gave the air a charming feel. Candle light services and special masses at the churches, which were decked up for the occasion, were attended with fervour and gusto. Leaders of the community delivered special messages.

One of the biggest congregations of the night was at the St. Mary's Church in Secunderabad where Holy Mass began at 11.45 p.m.. The gatherings at other churches including the Baptist Church at Narayanguda, the St. Andrew's Church in Marredpally and the St. Gregorious Church were also impressive.

The celebrations continued late into night, and will be on throughout Saturday.
