`No action against Zahira'

LUCKNOW, DEC. 25. The All-India Muslim Personal Law Board today ruled out any move to excommunicate Zahira Sheikh, prime witness in the Best Bakery case.

"AIMPLB has no jurisdiction of any kind to excommunicate any person or the right to comment on Zahira's actions in the Best Bakery case," Maulana Abdul Rahim Qureshi, assistant general secretary of the Board, said at a press conference here. When a person has faith in Allah and recites the `Kalma,' no one can debar him from the community.

Asked about the action of the Majlis-e-Shura in Bhopal, which on Friday excommunicated Zahira for changing her testimony in the Best Bakery case, the AIMPLB leaders said they were not aware of the existence of any such organisation.
