Monthly magazine for consumers

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, DEC. 25. The Civil Supplies Department will shortly bring out a monthly magazine `Viniyoga Tarangini' to serve as a manual for consumers.

The magazine will be priced at Rs. 5 and those undertaking its distribution will be given a commission of 50 per cent, said Bhanwarlal, Commissioner of Civil Supplies.

He was speaking at the National Consumer Day celebrations organised by the Consumer Force here. The magazine would provide useful tips to consumers so that they did not fall prey to unfair trade practices, Mr. Bhanwarlal said.

He said a consumers affairs centre and a website were created in the department where people could lodge their complaints. He wanted NGOs and consumer organisations to monitor the functioning of consumer clubs set up in schools.

Justice Ramkrishnam Raju, former President, State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, asked consumers to fight for their rights. He cited several cases to show how people were being cheated by chit fund companies and pointed out deficiencies in services offered by various departments. He regretted that not many people approached consumer courts. The Consumer Protection Act could be strengthened only if people fought for their rights, he said.

Earlier. I Venkatanarayan, President of the Commission, welcomed.
