VISAKHAPATNAM, DEC. 25. A meeting organised by the district wing of the Andhra Pradesh Civil Liberties Committee here on Saturday wanted Parliament to make a law to ensure categorisation of Scheduled Castes. The president of the APCLC district wing, T. Sreerama Murthy, said categorisation of SCs was justified since it would help Dalits, particularly in rural areas who were still being victimised, to improve their lot. The vice-president of the district unit, Palleti Appa Rao, said the APCLC supported categorisation of SCs as it would remove disparities. The general secretary of the State unit of the Madiga Reservation Porata Samiti (MRPS), P.V. Appa Rao, an executive committee member of East Godavari district unit of the APCLC, Madhusudhana Rao, a district leader of MRPS, Gotiwada Narasinga Rao, a Relli leader, Chenna Sanyasi Rao, and others also spoke. The APCLC district unit announced that the meeting was held in memory of one of its State leaders, Tandrapaadu Purushottam, who was murdered in Hyderabad on November 23, 2000.
