Soumyajit, Shamini emerge champions

MANESAR, DEC. 25. Soumyajit Sarkar and K. Shamini clinched the boys' and the girls' titles at the junior National table tennis tournament here on Saturday. Top-seeded Sarkar was at his aggressive best against PSPB Academy's Devesh Karia, beating him 11-9, 11-8, 12-14, 11-8, 11-8. In the girl's section, Shamini beat error-prone Neha Agarwal of Delhi 11-6, 11-8, 8-11, 12-10, 11-8.

The results: Boys: Final: Soumyajit Sarkar (CoE) bt Devesh Karia (PSPB Academy) 11-9, 11-8, 12-14, 11-8, 11-8. Semifinals: Sarkar bt Arpit Bhopalkar (PSPB Academy) 4-11, 12-10, 7-11, 8-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-6; Karia bt Zubin Kumar (PSPB Academy) 11-6, 5-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-7, 12-14, 5-11, 11-5. Doubles final: Aniket Koparkar and Sanil Shetty (Mah B) bt Sarkar and Jayanta Sarkar (CoE) 10-12, 12-10, 13-11, 11-13, 11-6. Girls: Final: K. Shamini (TN) bt Neha Agarwal (Del) 11-6, 11-8, 8-11, 12-10, 11-8. Semifinals: Neha bt Soumi Mondal (CoE) 11-1, 11-8, 11-6, 11-9; Shamini bt A.V. Nivedita (TN) 11-6, 11-9, 11-7, 11-7.
