ADILABAD, DEC. 25. The State president of the Andhra Pradesh United Teachers' Federation (UTF), K. Jojaiah, on Saturday criticised the Government for declaring a 20-day vacation for schools in two spells in view of Christmas and coming Sankranti festivals. He said such acts would further weaken the education system. Inaugurating the UTF bhavan at Adilabad, Mr. Jojaiah said, the Federation had recently conveyed its opposition to the long vacation to the Education Minister N. Rajya Laxmi. The Minister had expressed her inability to announce a cut in the number of holidays. She assured to cut the number of holidays during the coming academic year, he added. The UTF State president was appreciative of the efforts of teachers who contributed to the building fund. He said the UTF buildings across the State were worth Rs. 7 crores and all the money was contributed by the Federation members. The function was attended by the Additional Project Coordinator, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Vishwanath Rao, the Deputy District Education Officer, Neelkanth Rao, the UTF State executive committee member C. Kamala Kumari and district president P. Narayan Reddy.
