TN takes two points

CHENNAI, DEC. 25. Tamil Nadu gained two points by virtue of its first innings lead over Madhya Pradesh on the third and final day of the Cooch Behar under-19 tournament here today.

Resuming at 170 for five in reply to the host's 472, Madhya Pradesh was bowled out for 262 as Jalaj Saxena top-scored with 84 (145b, 13x4). Off-spinner V.R.S. Guru Kedarnath claimed five wickets. Following on, MP made 174 for four in its second innings.

Hyderabad defeated Tripura by eight wickets in the other match. Tamil Nadu is at the top of the table with seven points from two matches followed by Hyderabad (six from two).

In the third and final round on December 28, Hyderabad meets Tamil Nadu and Tripura takes on Madhya Pradesh.

At Bangalore, Gujarat defeated Jharkhand by 10 wickets while Andhra defeated Jammu and Kashmir by an innings and 19 runs in the Cooch Behar Trophy Plate Group B tournament matches that concluded here on Saturday.

Off-spinner Monish Parmar's eight-wicket haul set the base for Gujarat's triumph while Andhra surged ahead on off-spinner G.V.S. Prasad's six wickets.

Railways wins

At Visakhapatnam, Punjab took the lead over Saurashtra while Railways defeated Sikkim by an innings and 43 runs.

Hardevinder Singh claimed four wickets to restrict Saurashtra to 283 in reply to Punjab's 412.<137>

The scores:

At Chennai: Tamil Nadu 472 & Madhya Pradesh 262 in 83.2 overs (Jalaj Saxena 84, V.R.S. Guru Kedarnath five for 74) & 174 for four in 49 overs (Shan E. Alam 67).

Tripura 134 & 161 in 52.5 overs (Madhav Basfore 63, Alfred Absolm three for 15, including a hat-trick) lost to Hyderabad 222 & 77 for two in 18.4 overs.

At Bangalore: Gujarat 307 in 106.4 overs and 13 for no loss in 3.4 overs bt Jharkhand 150 in 49.1 overs and 169 in 51.5 overs (Subrata Ghosh 40, Monish Parmar eight for 52).

Andhra 343 for eight decl. in 100 overs bt Jammu and Kashmir 165 in 56.5 overs and 159 in 56 overs (G.V.S. Prasad six for 55).

At Mumbai: Karnataka 377 drew with Haryana 436 (Ankit Rawat 225 not out, Mandeep Singh 77, Sandeep Singh 43, Chanderpal Saini 40, G. Dhiman five for 137).

Maharashtra 305 bt Goa 152 and 132 (R. Patkal four for 25).

At Visakhapatnam: Punjab 412 and 50 for one in 20 overs drew with Saurashtra 283 in 89.2 overs (Chiteshwar Pujara 69, Ravinder Jadeja 51, R. Rathod 40, Hardevinder Singh four for 76).

Sikkim 130 and 228 in 80.4 overs (B. Guha 80, Harnadh Choudary 50 n.o., Harpreeth Saini six for 71) lost to Railways 401 for eight decl.
