KOZHIKODE, DEC. 25. The Health Minister, K.K. Ramachandran, will inaugurate a medical camp and awareness programme at Bangladesh Colony here tomorrow. An initiative of the Institute of Mental Health and Neuroscience (Imhans), Kozhikode, Government Mental Hospital and the Department of Psychiatry of the Kozhikode Medical College, the camp is being held as part of the State Government's joint suicide prevention programme (Krisis 2004-2005). Recent studies have shown an alarming increase in drug use in the district. It has also been found that a large number of drug addicts suffered from crippling diseases. The Kozhikode Corporation authorities are now engaged in dismantling drug dens in the colony. Deaths induced by overdose of drugs and police failure to put down drug peddlers had also triggered loud protests.
