Man found murdered

By Our Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI, DEC. 25. A 40-year-old man was found murdered under highly mysterious circumstances near an ashram at Kamla Market in Central Delhi today. An inmate of the ashram, suspected to have beaten up the man to death, has been detained.

According to the police, the body of Dharmender, who used to ply rickshaw, was found on the pavement near Hanuman Vatika in Kamla Market early this morning. There were no external injury marks on the body of the deceased. The police said several versions of the entire sequence of events have come to their notice and that they were examining all of them.

Dharmender's brother alleged that one of the inmates of the ashram beat up his brother last night over a petty issue which led to his death.

However, according to another version, Dharmender had tried to enter Hanuman Vatika, which houses about 150 "sadhus", with an intention to steal some articles but was caught red-handed by one of the inmates who reportedly beat him up after which he died.

According to another version, Dharmender was reportedly accompanied by another man, Ganju, when the alleged fracas took place between them and another person suspected to be an inmate of the ashram. Both of them were beaten up but Dharmender died, they said. The police added that Dharmender was an addict and physically weak and may have succumbed to his injuries. However, the police said since there were no external injury marks on Dharmender's body, it was difficult for them to arrive at any conclusion.

According to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central), Madan Mohan Oberoi, the police would proceed once they had the post-mortem report with them. "There are many versions and we are examining all of them," he said.

Meanwhile, Kamla Market police detained an inmate of the ashram, Sandeep Das, for further questioning.
