Fog returns

NEW DELHI DEC. 25. The Capital will wake up to yet another misty/ foggy morning on Sunday, according to the weatherman. The sky is expected to remain mainly clear during the rest of the day. The minimum temperature is expected to hover around 8 degrees Celsius.

The maximum and the minimum temperatures recorded at Safdarjung on Saturday were 17.9 degrees Celsius and 9.5 degrees Celsius, respectively, while Palam recorded a maximum of 17.6 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 10.4 degrees Celsius.

The maximum and the minimum relative humidity at Safdarjung was 97 per cent and 59 per cent, respectively. Palam recorded a maximum humidity of 88 per cent, while the minimum humidity was 59 per cent.

Woman set afire

NEW DELHI DEC. 25. A 23-year-old woman was allegedly set afire by her husband and in-laws in her house at Preet Vihar in East Delhi today. Her husband, brother-in-law and father-in-law have been arrested.

According to the police, Sonia, wife of Vijender, a resident of A-Block Jagatpuri in Preet Vihar, was admitted to RML Hospital with 50 per cent burn injuries around 8 a.m.

In her statement to the area Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Sonia said Vijender, his brother Raju and father-in-law, Kashmeera Lal, had poured kerosene on her this morning and set her ablaze. Following the statement, the police arrested Vijender, Raju and Kashmeera.

Investigations revealed that Sonia was married to Vijender, who had a small bicycle repair workshop, on December 5. Sonia used to have arguments with her in-laws over use of mobile phone. Her in-laws were apparently not happy with Sonia using the mobile phone excessively.

Meanwhile, a case has been registered at Preet Vihar police station and further investigations are on.

Held for bootlegging

NEW DELHI DEC. 25. Three persons, including a woman and her daughter, who were allegedly engaged in bootlegging business, have been arrested from different parts of West Delhi on Friday. The police recovered 228 bottles of illicit liquor from their possession.

In the first case, the police arrested Amrit Kaur and her daughter, Sunita, after 144 bottles of illicit liquor were recovered from their house at Patel Nagar. The third accused, Jai Prakash, was arrested while he was going to dispose of 84 bottles of illicit liquor in a cycle rickshaw. The police are now trying to nab those who had supplied the liquor to the accused.

Body found

NEW DELHI DEC. 25. The body of an unidentified middle-aged man was found at Seelampur in North-East Delhi today.

According to the police, the body was spotted outside a shop near Seelampur bus shelter around 1-15 p.m. There were no injury marks on the body. The police have preserved the body and are trying to identify him. They suspect that the man died due to cold.
