Manmohan condoles Nripen Chakraborty's death

By Our Staff Correspondent

NEW DELHI, DEC. 26 . The Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, has condoled the death of the former Tripura Chief Minister, Nripen Chakraborty.

In his message, Dr. Singh described Chakraborty as one of the tallest leaders of the Communist movement in India who stood out among the leaders for his Gandhian simplicity, his administrative capabilities and commitment to finding practical solutions to complex problems.

``Mr. Chakraborty was a patriot, nationalist and an internationalist. I have always been impressed by his high intellectual capabilities,'' the Prime Minister's message said. In his passing away, the nation and our working people have lost a true friend, it said.

Mr. Chakraborty was dedicated to the development of Tripura and the northeastern States. He was truly committed to the emotional integration of the people of the northeast and the entire Indian sub-continent. ``His absence will be missed by all those who cherished values of the commitment to the people and Gandhian simplicity,'' Dr. Singh said.
