Tamil Nadu takes first innings lead

By Our Sports Reporter

KOLKATA, DEC. 26. Tamil Nadu brightened its semifinal chances by taking a 91-run first innings lead over Punjab on the second day of the quarterfinal of the Under-15 cricket for the Poly Umrigar Trophy here today. Opener L. Suryaprakash scored a patient 124 with 19 fours to help Tamil Nadu make 269 in reply to Punjab's 178. Suryaprakash, who had shared a 96-run opening wicket stand with Abhinav Mukund (40), was the last man to be dismissed. With only a day's action remaining, it looks unlikely that Punjab would be able force an outright win.

Brief scores: Punjab 178 and 5 for one vs. Tamil Nadu 269 (L. Suryaprakash 124, A. Mukund 40). Uttar Pradesh 114 and 104 for three wkts (A. Dixit 46 not out vs. Andhra Pradesh 250 (P. C. Murthaza 70, R. Chowdhary 47; M. K. Ahmed five for 57). Delhi 267 vs. Bengal 203 for nine (S. S. Mondal 78; P. Sangwan five for 53).
