VILLUPURAM, DEC. 26. The Villupuram Collector, Ka. Balachandran, who went to inspect marooned places near Kottakuppam faced an angry crowd at Rahmad Nagar today. The people blocked his way and surrounded his car. They said if their plea for placing boulders on the shore were conceded, the damage could have been averted. The Kottakuppam residents had been demanding for some time that to prevent erosion, boulders should be placed on the shore. But it was yet to be fulfilled. The Collector told them that he would look into the matter. The toll due to giant waves hitting the coastal areas was officially put at 18. The deaths were at Bommiarpalayam - one (man), Koonimedukuppam (seven men 2 and women 5), Mudaliarkuppam (seven men 2 and women 5) and Anichankuppam (three men).
