Indicate name of bus stops

Sir, — I request the A.P.S.R.T.C. authorities to specify the name of the bus stop as well as important emergency telephone numbers on every bus shelter in the twin cities. Commuters from districts and those in the city, who commute in the buses occasionally, find it difficult to identify the stop where they intend to alight. The RTC authorities should also indicate the bus routes near the shelters.

MMTS train tickets

Sir, — Passengers arriving by long distant trains at Hyderabad, Secunderabad or at Kacheguda railway stations find it convenient to travel to their destination in the city by the M.M.T.S. But the problem is with the buying of tickets for these local trains at the crowded railway stations. Since the long distance trains generally run late, passengers have little time to purchase the MMTS ticket. Particularly, the senior citizens, physically challenged and women face a lot of inconvenience as they have to go to the counters with the luggage to buy the tickets. The railway authorities should find out a way to facilitate the long distance passengers to travel by the MMTS trains without undergoing the ordeal of going to the counters for the tickets.

Water meters are not practical

Sir, — The HMWSSB recently directed domestic customers to fix the new ISO meter before December 31, 2004 to avoid penalty and disconnection. The installation of water meters is an unnecessary burden on domestic customers and unfair considering the water supply position.

Water is supplied in most of the areas once in two or three days for one/ two hours with low pressure. Even this supply is doubtful in summer and next few years, as the water bodies are going dry. The meters installed earlier -- costing about Rs.500- Rs.700 -- hardly worked for a few months.

This move smacks of an ulterior motive to benefit the meter manufacturers at the cost of residents.

Municipal cash counter timings

Sir, — I own a flat at Deeptisreenagar near Chandanagar which comes under the Serilingampalli Municipality. There is a cash counter of the municipality at Gangaram village near Chandanagar in Ranga Reddy district wherein we can pay our house tax etc.

This counter does not display the timings. I had deputed my representative to pay my house tax during last week on different dates and at different timings but in vain. Every time the counter was found closed. The authorities at the Municipal Office at Lingampally (near Railway Station) also refused to accept the bill and directed us to pay the bill at the Gangaram cash counter only.

The authorities are requested to fix a board specifying the timings.

Will Tata firm respond?

Sir, — In May, I got a Tata telephone connection with the number 55794560. I was informed that there was a statutory concession given to freedom fighters following which I submitted the necessary documents. After a few bills, which were cleared within the stipulated time, I noticed that the concession was not extended as promised. Subsequently, when a complaint was lodged, the firm informed me that I was not eligible under the plan opted by me. They also said the "plan" was being changed and I would be eligible for the concession. However, to my dismay, they did not extend the concession on the pretext that it is not applicable for the wireless subscribers. I request the TATA phone authorities to respond immediately and solve the problem.

Loudspeaker

menace

Sir, — In the twin cities, the use of loudspeakers has become quite common for every occasion, call it a marriage function, a political party meeting or a religious function. A day does not pass without the use of loudspeakers in one corner or the other in the city. It is more rampant, beginning from Ganesh festival followed by Dasara, Ramzan, Karthika Masam and now Ayyappa pujas and ends with Ugadi, and intermittently by other functions. Unfortunately, the users of the loudspeakers do not bother about the inconvenience caused to others. Police should insist that prior permission should be obtained for the use of loudspeakers for any function and they should be allowed within the permitted decibels only.

Extend special trains

Sir, — The South Central Railway (SCR) is running Sabarimalai special trains for the benefit of pilgrims. The train (741/742) starts at Kachiguda and runs via Kurnool, Guntakal, Dharmavaram, Yelahanka, Jolarpettai and Ernakulam. It doesn't touch Bangalore city junction. It takes 27 hours to reach Ernakulam. To pick up Sabarimalai pilgrims, it stops at various stations (The stoppages are more).A set of trains No. 7229/7230 and 7231/7232 Sabari Express run to Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram via Guntur, Tirupati, Katpadi. I suggest the SCR to run 7229/7230 Secunderabad-Ernakulam Sabari Express train via Kurnool, Dharmavaram, Yelahanak, Jolarpettai route for the benefit of passengers in these areas to reach central and southern Kerala.

Set right faulty auto meters

Sir, — There are nearly 40,000 autos plying in the twin cities. A majority of them are running with faulty and uncalibrated meters. On most occasions, the meters used by the auto drivers are conveniently devised so that the readings jump swiftly during transit halt and ultimately show a figure, which is in excess of the actual, on reaching the destination.

It is high time the authorities initiated action.
