Letters to the Editor
Sir, The disaster was unexpected and enormous. The Centre and State Governments, besides individuals and organisations, have committed themselves to providing relief to the affected. The State Government must ensure that the help reaches the victims. And that they are not duped by middlemen posing as sympathisers. If necessary, the help of NGOs and self-help groups can be taken to educate the people.
M. Govindarajulu Naidu,
* * * Sir, The Government should identify collection centres such as post offices, railway stations and banks for voluntary donations. The task of providing permanent shelters to those residing in the coastal belt should be of utmost priority so that such a colossal destruction can be averted in future.
K. Sundaresan,
