Clarification

By Our Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD, DEC. 27. It was not the BJP but the communal forces that let down former Prime Minister, P.V. Narasimha Rao, in the demolition of the Babri Masjid, said former law secretary, P.C. Rao.

Reacting to a report in these columns, Dr. Rao clarified that he did not refer to the BJP in that context. With regard to the bill on separation of religion from politics, the reference was also to the communal forces.

The allusion to the BJP was in connection with assurances given by its leaders in the National Integration Council, which, in the opinion of Narasimha Rao, constituted one of the relevant factors in his decision-making process, Dr. Rao said.
