This Day That Age
Arrangements have been completed for the introduction from January 1 of the capital's first suburban shuttle train service between New Delhi and Vinay Nagar. The service will connect New Delhi with several new suburbs on the southern outskirts of the capital - Hazrat Nizamuddin, Lajpatnagar, Sevanagar, Lodi Colony and Vinay Nagar. There will be three trains each way every day. Each train will have four third class bogies and a carrying capacity of approximately 250 passengers. The new line was inspected on December 26 by the Railway Minister, Mr. Lal Bahadur Shastri. Mr. Shastri also saw the line between Delhi Cantonment and New Delhi over which the Railways propose to introduce a shuttle service as soon as rail cars are available.
