BELGAUM, DEC. 27. Ramchandra Hanamant Kulkarni, 86, a Gandhian and senior journalist, died in his Tilakwadi residence here on Monday. R.H., as he was popularly known, was the first scribe from the district to obtain a degree in journalism from Bombay University. He was a bachelor and had dedicated his life to social service. He had started his career with the Kannada newspaper Tayinaadu and had worked in The Indian Express and The Times of India. He had been reporting for the news agency Press Trust of India for the past 40 years. R.H. was the chairman of the Karnataka Law Society which runs a chain of educational institutions in the district. The Karnataka Press Academy honoured him with its annual award in 1992. The Pejawar Mutt had honoured with the title of Samaj Bhushan. He was also running a hostel for poor boys in the city. The district in-charge Minister, Prakash B. Hukkeri, Belgaum Reporters' Guild and the district unit of the Karnataka Union of Working Journalists have mourned R.H. The cremation was conducted in the afternoon.
