Raichur
By Our Staff Correspondent
RAICHUR, DEC. 27. The district administration is facing problems in implementing a Rs. 18-lakh project to improve major roads in Raichur. The Deputy Commissioner and administrator of the Raichur City Municipal Council (CMC), H.V. Parsvanath, recently decided to take up a project to ease traffic congestion. Accordingly, he prepared estimates for Rs. 18 lakhs and got the project approved by the city municipal council. However, he could not implement the project following opposition from a majority of councillors from the Janata Dal (Secular). A delegation comprising 24 councillors headed by M. Eranna, former President of the council, met the Deputy Commissioner on Monday and urged him to shelve the project as a resolution approving it passed in the recent meeting is not valid. The delegation said that it had urged the administrator to utilise funds available for taking up development works ward-wise and not to divert them for other purposes. The meeting had forcibly passed a resolution to utilise the money for improving major roads in the city despite opposition from many councillors. The delegation appealed to the administrator to convene a meeting of the council and take a decision in this regard. Mr. Eranna said in the past, the council utilised such funds for improving basic amenities. It had initiated action to generate funds while taking up work on major roads.
