GULBARGA, DEC. 27. A three-day drawing teachers' educational conference will be held here from Tuesday. The conference will discuss the problems faced by drawing teachers and seek inclusion of drawing as a compulsory subject in schools. The honorary president of the conference, J.S. Khanderao, and the general secretary, T. Devendrappa, told presspersons here today that the conference will be inaugurated by the Minister of State for Lottery and Small Savings, Basavaraj Horatti, at the Veerashaiva Kalyana Mantapa in the city. The inauguration will be preceded by a procession from Nehru Ganj, depicting various cultures and art forms of different regions of the State. Mr. Devendrappa said the conference will focus on the changing scenario in the educational field, and the advent of computer-aided education and its impact on traditional subjects such as drawing. Drawing teachers should follow the latest skills in teaching.
Competitions
Competitions will be organised to provide an opportunity to drawing teachers to excel in the field by using the latest teaching methodology, he said. He said drawing forms an integral part of the formative period of a child who joins school and this traditional form of education should be encouraged. The State Government should make drawing as a compulsory subject and appoint drawing teachers in all schools.
Awards
Mr. Devendrappa said six awards, each comprising Rs. 2,000 and a certificate, has been instituted as part of the conference for drawing teachers. Apart from various forms of drawing, photography has been included in the contest for the first time. Five more awards have been instituted in honour of artists such as S.M. Pandit, Dananjaya Shilpi, M.S. Nanjundarao, R.S. Hadapad and Venkatachalapathy. They will be distributed during the conference. He said that Iqbal Ahmed Saradgi, Gulbarga MP; Shashil G. Namoshi, MLC; Amrutrao Patil, Mayor; and Anjum Parvez, Deputy Commissioner; will participate in the inaugural function. Special sessions will be organised on various aspects of drawing, including the role of art and learning in education; the trimester system and its impact on drawing course; art and social values; drawing and dramas; and women and media. Experts in the field from all over the State will deliver lectures on these subjects. The Water Resources Minister, M. Mallikarjun Kharge, will participate in the valedictory function, he said.
