KOLKATA, DEC. 27. Tamil Nadu scored a convincing win over Punjab by nine wickets to move into the semifinals of the under-15 cricket for Poly Umrigar Trophy, played here at various centres on Monday. Having gained a 91-run lead in the first innings of its quarterfinals encounter, Tamil Nadu restricted Punjab to 174 in the second innings. Tamil Nadu overhauled the target of 84 runs losing just one wicket. In another match, Andhra Pradesh also booked a semifinal berth in style beating Uttar Pradesh by six wickets. Having struggled in the first innings, UP did better in the second innings scoring 260. T.K. Ganesh Kumar excelled with the bat and ball. He first claimed seven UP batsmen and then scored 41 runs to help Andhra get past the winning target of 124 runs. Delhi and Orissa also made it to the last four stage beating host Bengal and Gujarat respectively by virtue of having the first innings lead, in two drawn matches. In the semifinals, to be played from Friday, Tamil Nadu will take on Andhra Pradesh while in the other match Delhi will meet Orissa.
Uttar Pradesh 114 and 260 (U. Sharma 76, A. Dixit 65; T.K. Ganesh Kumar seven for 91) lost to Andhra Pradesh 250 and 127 for four (D. Shiva Kumar 56, T.K. Ganesh Kumar 41).
Delhi 267 and 224 without loss (V. Sood 107 not out, A. Gupta 103 not out) bt Bengal 254 (S.S. Mondal 78, R. Adhikary 41).
Orissa 238 and 164 bt Gujarat 142 (A. Sahoo seven for 67) and 123 for seven (N. Rathore 48). Our Sports Reporter
