MANGALORE, DEC. 27. The Karnataka Government has released Rs. 5.5 crores for relief operations in the States and Union Territories ravaged by tsunami on Sunday, the Chief Minister, N. Dharam Singh, said here on Monday. He told presspersons at Mukka beach, near Surathkal, that the Cabinet met on Monday and decided to release Rs. 2 crores to Tamil Nadu, Rs. 1 crores each to Andhra Pradesh and the Andamans and Rs. 50 lakhs each to Kerala, Pondicherry and the Lakshadweep Islands. The Chief Minister said the families of those from Karnataka who died in other States and Union Territories would be given Rs. 1 lakh as compensation. He had directed the authorities concerned to identify such families. He said the Ministers would donate a month's salary for relief operations.
